Gypsy, the Equine Encyclopedia, has something to say about how much water a horse needs per day.  Like all Shetlands, she is always listening, watching and learning.

The average adult horse consumes 5 to 10 gallons of water per day.  As water makes up 65 – 75 % of an equine’s body weight, it is important that horses have access to water at all times except for when cooling down after hard work.
