Equine Advice: Base Wide

Gypsy, the Equine Encyclopedia, has something to say about “base wide.”  Like all Shetlands, she eats too much grass and gets very wide.

“Base wide” is a horse conformation term that refers to when a horse stands with his feet very far apart.  Base wide is not the way a horse chooses to stand but the way his conformation causes him to.
